“I was very happy with the treatment I received. I loved receiving the exercises by email. It was nice to have as a reminder to do them as well as how to do them. I was also happy with explanations provided for what was causing the pain.

What is Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)?
Intramuscular Stimulation is a therapeutic technique that involves using a special needle to stimulate tight muscles that can cause pain or discomfort at the back or neck and, in some cases, soft tissue injuries. However, intramuscular Stimulation is a bit similar to acupuncture, but its procedures and application are totally different.
During an intramuscular stimulation treatment at Momentum Spine and Sports Physiotherapy Clinic, a needle is pierced into your skin. Most times, patients rarely get to feel the impact if their muscle is functioning properly. But if their muscle is dysfunctional, hypersensitive, and shortened, they will feel a sharp sensation like a dull ache, muscle cramp, or Charlie horse because the needle causes the abnormal muscle to feel a brief, sharp pain before realizing. Once the sensation is no longer felt, the muscle relaxes. This experienced sensation results in the relief of the pains and shortened muscle caused by the neuropathy.
Benefits of Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)
Different factors can cause pain in the body. However, most of these pains can be treated with intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), especially in conditions that cause nerve irritation.
It has been observed that some pains do not exhibit symptoms of inflammation or tissue damage like backaches, headache, frozen shoulder, chronic muscle pain, tennis elbow, and other related musculoskeletal problem. Due to this, they are difficult to manage using traditional techniques.
This form of pain is regarded as neuropathic pain. It usually occurs when a mirror irritation or injury makes the nerve malfunction. In most cases, it further causes the nerve and nerve endings to become highly sensitive to harmful signals, which are presumably painful. Medically, such conditions are tagged as supersensitive. Surprisingly, when medical tests are performed on affected parts, the results detect no problem, but you may still feel discomfort/pain. Supersensitive can cause myofascial pain and muscle shortening.
Often, lots of patients opt for pain-relieving medication or anti-inflammatory drugs to help lessen the pain. But do you know they are only effective for the short term( masking of pain for a while)? Through intramuscular stimulation sessions at Momentum Spine and Sports Physiotherapy Clinic, press and irritated necks that cause muscle shortening and pains can be pulled and desensitized using IMS techniques to achieve the comfort a patient needs.
