“I was very happy with the treatment I received. I loved receiving the exercises by email. It was nice to have as a reminder to do them as well as how to do them. I was also happy with explanations provided for what was causing the pain.

What is a Concussion?
A concussion is a condition used to describe brain injury due to the skull’s irregular movement (acceleration/deceleration). In most cases, it is caused by a large amount of impact on your body, causing a biochemical imbalance among your brain cells. This further leads to temporary energy deficit and low blood flow within the brain cell.
Common Symptoms of concussion
When a person has a concussion, some of the most noticeable signs are;
- Nausea or vomiting
- Balance problem
- Headache
- Loss of consciousness
- Neck pain
- Pressure in the head
Momentum Spine and Sports Physiotherapy Clinic concussion management services & strategies in line with CCMI practices.
As a partnered CCMI practitioner, our concussion programs are effective and beneficial to patients. Programs provided during concussion treatment include;
- Vestibular, oculomotor, and cervical spine rehabilitation
- Exertional testing for return-to-sport readiness. If underlying symptoms continue, threshold exercises are introduced
- Pre-season baseline and post-injury or return-to-sport testing. These tests consist of neurocognitive, reaction time, visual procession, and balance aspects.
- Educational sessions and resources
At the earlier stage of concussion, research suggests 24-48 hours of physical and cognitive rest depending on the relative symptoms and current condition.
According to the international consensus statement on concussion in sport (2018), after a short period, a patient should be recommended gradual activities that can enhance their mental and physical condition by a certified practitioner trained in concussion management.
Pre-Season Testing
Pre-season testing is a multimodal assessment performed using a series of cognitive and physical tests to observe the healthy state/function of the brain with an overview of any pre-injury.
The importance of these tests helps a CCMI specialist to have a proper insight to determine whether a patient sustained a concussion while comparing it with the established objective benchmark. Due to the fact that most baseline testing is not created equal, CCMI has specified the best evidence-based tool to guide a specialist to obtain a well-detailed, multimodal, and proven-baseline test.
Most patients tend to recover from symptoms within days to weeks before the brain heals completely. Through evidence-baseline information, it will help your specialist to make the necessary and safe decision before returning to regular activities
